A lot of you are keen to make your own ginger beer starter so I’ve got permission from my friend who gave me mine to share this recipe on

Christchurch’s Piko Wholefoods site. Click here to get instructions. We are loving our ginger beer as it’s not too sweet and very refreshing. It’s also so easy just to mix up a batch every week and bottle it. Enjoy.

    Hi Wendyl,
The recipe says Ground Ginger, but could you use fresh?
    Thanks!

No I would stick with the ground ginger to keep it simple. I’m sure you could find recipes online using fresh ginger though.

Thank you so much for sharing, my husband loves gingerbeer and now he can make his own and share it around.

  3. Kirsten says:

Hi, what size preserving jar would you use for this? Thanks.

  4. Marius says:

Please use plastic bottles, only fill 3/4 … dont use the clip-type glass bottles as I had a few explode today after a day from bottling. I did some Internet searching and exploding glass bottles is a common issue, use PLASTIC BOTTLES instead. Another tip, before you open it place the plastic bottles in the fridge to slowdown the fermentation process, you’ll get less gas and bubbling when you open the bottles.
